Details

York Lindy welcomes you to join our beginners' Lindy Hop course this April in the heart of York! With friendly teachers and a sociable atmosphere, absolute beginners are welcome and no partner or previous experience is required.

This 3-week course will focus on eight count Lindy Hop.

Lindy Hop is an African-American dance, that originated in Harlem (New York City) in the 1930s. Danced to big band jazz music of that era, this is a fun dance that’s accessible to all regardless of your previous experience (or no experience!) of dancing.

We’ll be focusing on the eight count footwork, which is the core footwork pattern of Lindy Hop. Our friendly teachers will break down the footwork before introducing you to some fun moves and variations. By week three, you’ll be learning the Swing Out - the defining move of the dance!

Lindy Hop is a partnered dance, and we rotate partners during the lessons. This is because the skill of the dance is to be able to dance with anyone, which is why dance events are referred to as “social dances”. If you prefer not to rotate partners, we fully support your decision but ask that you please sign-up with a partner you feel comfortable dancing with.

We recommend wearing comfy clothes and flat shoes.

This course lasts three weeks so you can build up your moves with dancers of a similar level. Our courses cost £18 for the 3 weeks (14 April, 21 April and 28 April). Our concession price is £14 for the 3 weeks (available for students, pensioners and those on benefit support).
