We are extremely excited to welcome Will & Jessy to York Lindy’s first Masterclass! We’re bringing the very best in the UK to teach advanced techniques to our experienced dancers!
Will & Jessy are superb teachers based in London who have burst onto the international scene, competing and teaching at the highest level across Europe. They have won awards at very competitive European events including Swim Out Costa Brava, Retro Swing Weekend, Dragon Swing, All Lithuanian Weekend… the list is actually quite long at this stage! Later this year they’ll be teaching at Barswingona, a very high profile event, cementing their reputation as rising stars internationally. We’re really thrilled that they will come and share their knowledge with us!
The event will take place in the historic city of York on Saturday 25 March. It will comprise 5 hours of teaching followed by an evening social dance, including a performance from Will & Jessy (how exciting!).
As always for our social dances, the evening dance is open to dancers of all levels!
More about our fabulous teachers
Jessy Miller trained in classical Ballet and Tap before finding her passion in Lindy Hop at the age of 19. Jessy fell in love with the culture and the music of the dance and values expression and authenticity. Jessy & Will train as much as they can and social dance as often as possible in London. In London, she is part of the London Jazz Works team, running socials and teaching regular classes. You can expect Jessy’s teaching to focus on taking risks, exploring new movements, and solid rhythms.
Will Fulton spent his pre-dance years in the world of professional rugby and tries to bring that same work ethic and energy to his dancing. Will teaches classes and weekend workshops with Jessy in their home city of London. A melting pot of creativity, the city offers endless inspiration to dancers and it has hugely shaped Will’s dancing. You can expect Will’s teaching to focus on clean basics, interesting rhythms and unfamiliar power moves.
Difficulty level
As a workshop attendee, we expect you to have a solid foundation in social dancing with proficiency in the three basic footworks, namely 6-count Lindy, 8-count Lindy, and 1930s Charleston. However, we do not expect you to execute every move flawlessly on the day, as practice makes perfect. Our primary goal is for you to walk away with new ideas and skills to improve your dancing abilities, so you can continue to develop and enhance your skills beyond the workshop.
The evening social is open to dancers of all levels.
Tickets
This event is being subsidised thanks to York Lindy’s fantastic community. Full price tickets are £38. Concession tickets are available for students, pensioners, and those on benefits - concession tickets cost £32. Tickets include 5 hours of teaching and free access to the evening social. This is really excellent value for such top-notch teachers.
You must reserve your ticket online in advance; we are not currently able to admit attendees on the door.
Location
Both the workshop and the social will take place in St Lawrence Church Community Hall (see the Google map below). Multiple bus routes are available from York station, taking approximately 15 mins. Walking to the hall from the station takes 30 mins.
