Join us to celebrate 100 years of the Charleston with our new 1920s Charleston Courses!
The Charleston gained popularity when it was danced to James. P. Johnson’s composition ‘Charleston’ in the show ‘Runnin’ Wild’ in 1923. Danced solo or with a partner, the 1920s Charleston is characterised by a jaunty rhythm accented through the piano rhythm and styling with swivels.
In our 4-week Beginners Course, you will learn the basic rhythm, movement and styling along with some popular variations.
In the 3-week Level 2 course, you will build on the fundamentals with some more variations and explore different movements and transitions with your partner.
Sign up for either the Beginners or Level 2 course, or both! The ticket includes a free social dance practice session on week 4.
We encourage you to attend all classes within the course as we will build on our progress each week.
Please reserve your ticket online in advance; we are not currently able to admit attendees on the door.
This is a rotating partnered course. If you prefer not to rotate partners, we fully support your decision but ask that you please sign-up with a partner you feel comfortable dancing with.
Please check our current Covid-19 precautions on our website: https://www.yorklindy.co.uk/code-of-conduct When social dancing, if a person is already wearing a mask, please match them by wearing a mask to dance with them.
